Featuring MRB Contracting,

Can you talk about your building trade background? I have always built stuff for as long as I can remember. From a young age I was always out in my garage using my Dad's power tools and making anything I could. However, when I was 18, I got a summer job doing real carpentry, and I was hooked. I attended the NSCC carpentry program, then moved out west shortly after. Out there I learned from some of the best on the proper way to build a house from top to bottom. I started my own company in Calgary specializing in large custom homes. I ran that company for 4 years before I started to miss Halifax and the east coast way of life. I then came home and teamed up with my friend of 15 years, Mike Burns at MRB, and have been happily here ever since. What's the most satisfying part of your job? I've always said the most satisfying part of my job, or the thing I find the most surreal, is that someone gives you a picture of a structure, with all kinds of angles, measurements and intricate details. Then gives you a pile of wood and you have to build it to within an eighth of an inch. There's no better feeling than standing back and looking at something you and your team have just built, when there was nothing but a hole in the ground to start. Favourite tool? I'd have to say my favourite tool is a Skil (circular) saw. With so many specialized tools out today for every type of job, people forget how versatile it can be. Hobbies? My biggest hobby would definitely have to be golf. And trying to teach Mike Burns how to properly swing a club. It's a losing battle that I don't feel will ever be won.

Tags are key words that are added by a service provider or homeowner when they upload a photo. They may describe anything in the photo the uploader thinks is particularly notable: a feature, a paint color, a material used, anything. We encourage you to add tags wherever something in the image has caught your eye. If you don't see many results under tags yet, you will as the site grows. Keep tagging!
