About Us
Our History. Our Story.
The ServiceLane team has been in the online contractor matching service for over fifteen years. Principals include pioneers in the home improvement space, having founded and grown such online businesses as Renovation Experts, ImproveNet, Web.com, and HGTVPro. We have learned what works - and what doesn't - and are tailoring a business that optimizes the home remodeling experience for the homeowner and the professional alike.
Compass Capital, a private equity firm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, had previously owned and operated RenovationExperts.com and RenexPro.com, which were purchased by Web.com in 2006. ServiceLane is the next logical step for this team. We know the industry is still poorly represented across the Internet, and believe our service can assist both homeowners and service providers to connect in a way that profits both. Our new approach takes advantage of the new ways everyone is using the web.
We hope you enjoy using this site as much as we enjoyed crafting it.
Craig Lucas
President, Compass Capital
Our Team.
Craig Lucas, President/CEO
Craig is the founder of Renex, Inc., operators of numerous home
improvement websites in North America. Craig assembled a great team that
grew Renex and its flagship site, RenovationExperts.com, from a small,
three-person operation into the second largest national contractor matching
service in the US, second only to ServiceMagic, now HomeAdvisor. He sold
Renex to Web.com in 2006, and oversaw its incorporation into the Web.com
suite of services as executive vice president. Craig is a serial entrepreneur,
having built numerous start ups into profitable businesses which he then
sold to larger players. Craig also volunteers on numerous non-profits.
Bill Crosby, COO
Most recently, Bill directed digital product development for Bonnier
Corporation (part of Bonnier AB, a multinational media conglomerate). From
2004-2008 he worked at Scripps Networks, first launching HGTVPro (a
website aimed at building and remodeling professionals), then, as senior vice
president, overseeing video initiatives across all company websites. Prior to
Scripps, Bill launched the magazine "MyHomeMyTown" in the San Francisco
East Bay region. At ImproveNet, a pioneering contractor-matching service,
Bill, as editorial director, guided the August 1997 national launch. After the
company went public in 2000, he rose to senior vice president, and assumed
leadership of the business development, sales, and marketing groups, as
well as editorial. ImproveNet was eventually acquired by ServiceMagic.
Jonathan Todd, CTO
Jonathan was instrumental in the success of Renex, having built its
extensive call center operations by crafting a state-of-the-art Asterisk-based
architecture. His extensive knowledge of AJAX, PHP, ASP. VBScript, and
Microsoft SQL Server allowed him to craft call center and outbound dialer
protocols, management, sales, and accounting tools, all reporting and
analytics tools, as well as business procedures, CRM tools, and email
distribution systems. He was also responsible for Renex' various websites,
landing pages, and submit paths, as well as quality assurance. His business
systems around contractor matching, lead verification, and lead distribution,
as well as HTTP and XML protocols for lead exchange with other business
partners, provided the backbone for Renex' explosive growth and success.
